Fair Trade Finder
Branding and website project
FairTradeFinder.com is a company that was created to help people find fair trade, ethical, and sustainable products and services to buy online. They research and write articles about brands that are eco-friendly, sustainable and fair trade. Fair Trade Finder asked me to develop a brand identity for them and also to re-design their website, with an emphasis on great search engine optimization.
How to organize the information
An important goal for the site was to optimize the information for SEO and to use Google guidelines to increase site traffic and also allow users to easily find the articles they want to read. I identified the 5 categories which would become hubs: sustainable products, eco camping, non-toxic products, vegan products and fair trade products. Articles would be sorted into these 5 categories and pages would be created.
Users would need to access the 5 categories in several ways from the home page and also find individual articles.
Brand and UI Kit
I wanted to create a color palette that conveyed eco-friendly with nature inspired greens and blue and also some fun sunshiny orange and yellow highlights. I created simple icons to represent the 5 important categories which I would later use in the site design.
I also picked heading fonts, paragraph fonts and a novelty font to use in my illustrations.
Final website design and social media assets
After research and creating the wireframes I began to design the site with both desktop and mobile views. I separated the section using color and varying the layouts, including fun illustrations to convey the brand personality and make the site engaging. It was an important goal of the project to represent all of the major categories of articles on the home page.
Website design
I created full color comps of the mobile and desktop views of the Fair Trade Finder site. I used brand and UI kit I created.
Mood boards
I created a brand mood board with images and brand words for reference.
Youtube
I created Youtube thumbnails for the Fair Trade Finder channel.
I wanted to set up a style for the thumbnails that they could later recreate in Canva anytime they added a new video.
I used the brand fonts and also created backgrounds using the tree shapes from the brand kit.
Illustrations
I created some quirky illustrations of nature for the brand.
